All Treats, No Tricks with New Features from Google

Are you heading out Trick or Treating this Halloween or looking for the best spooky haunted restaurant downtown? Google Maps has more than 150 million places to visit. That’s restaurants, boutiques, attractions, and so much more that millions of people search for every day. So, with all these other places in the world, how can you encourage people to choose your business first? You could put a spell on them, but luckily for you, Google Maps has a different approach.

New Treats from Google

In a recent blog post, we talked about how Google My Business has impacted local searches with their new post feature. If you haven’t already taken advantage of posting, there is no better time than now to start!

Last week, Google rolled out a feature that allows Android users to “Follow” places on Google Maps. Now customers can stay up-to-date with your business without having to do any paranormal investigating.

Once a user follows a place, they will see that place’s posts first in the “For You” tab on the Google Maps app. The ‘For You’ tab basically acts as a social feed, but optimized for businesses to consumers. Businesses can take advantage of this by posting often.

This tab also recommends businesses and places based on previous locations in the consumer’s search history. Your business may already be showing up for some users, so make sure your Google My Business profile is looking more alive than dead.

The second delicious new treat that Google introduced is the ability to see profiles for new businesses before they even open. Users can gaze into the crystal ball of Google Maps and find future places up to 3 months in advance. Just look for the opening date in orange, a fitting color for an October update.

Bone-Chilling Business

Now instead of casting spells on people and scaring them into coming to your business first, you can just optimize your Google My Business profile. It’s much less horrific for people to find you that way.
