5 Frequently Asked Website Design Questions

5 Web Design Questions

You already know that all businesses should have a website to establish their online presence, but we understand that there’s a lot that goes into having a website and it can be confusing. That’s why we’re always happy to help by answering any questions, like these 5 frequently asked website design questions!

What is a responsive website design and why should I care?

This is a great question and one we get often! A responsive web design basically means that your website will look good on any device, from desktop to tablet to mobile. It means that the elements on your website, like images and content, will rearrange based on the screen size of a user’s device. This makes your content more readable and will improve your user experience.

So yes, you should care about responsive website design. Many people browse on their phones these days (more than half!), so you would want your website to look good for them too, right?

What is WordPress and will it work for my business?

WordPress is a website platform, also known as a content management system (CMS), that allows you to edit and manage your website easily. We work a lot with WordPress as a platform and highly recommend it to many of our clients. WordPress is flexible, reliable and fairly easy to learn which are a few of the many reasons we highly recommend it.

Be careful though! There is a huge difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. You can learn about those differences in our WordPress Comparison blog.

Can you just take what my competitor has and put my logo on it?

The simple answer to this super common question is a firm no. Besides copyright laws and the fact that it’s illegal to steal content or photos from another website, it’s not a good idea to do exactly what your competitor is doing.

You want your website to be unique, and represent your business with your own branding. You’re not the exact same business as your competitors, so why follow what they’re doing? Plus, just because it works for them doesn’t mean it will work for you. Stand out from your competitors by doing your own thing!

We can use your competitor’s websites and content as examples or inspiration, so make note of what you like about their websites. Our graphic designers can help take what you like and form a unique website that better fits your own branding.

Can you replace that image with this one I found on Google?

This happens a lot and we understand why. If you’re just starting out or don’t have photography or photo editing skills, then finding images for your website can be hard. However, there are copyright laws and it is illegal to take images off Google or other places online without permission from the content owner.

There is an option on Google to filter by “usage rights”, but we still recommend purchasing stock photos or using trusted stock photography websites like Pixabay or Adobe Stock.

Can you help get my website ranked on Google?

Absolutely! Beyond the initial design of your website, we can help you achieve the realistic goal of getting your website ranked on Google. Our team of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts use best practices to build a plan that works for your business. We also offer other digital marketing services such as Pay Per Click advertising, Social Media Management, Email Marketing and more!
